GLUTEN FREE SUGAR COOKIES

Craving a sweet treat? These gluten-free sugar cookies are soft, buttery, and irresistibly delicious!

Why we love Sugar Cookies:
What’s not to love about sugar cookies? Soft, sweet, and simply irresistible—especially when they're gluten-free!

These sugar cookies are not only gluten free, but can easily be made dairy free and egg free. There are nut free as well, making this recipe allergen friendly!

There’s nothing like baking with loved ones to bring sweetness to every moment! Invite your kids, grandkids or other loved ones to help you with the baking and decorating.

Ingredients

  • Butter - The fat in butter contributes to the smooth, silky texture of fudge. It helps prevent the sugar from crystallizing too much, which can result in a grainy texture. For DAIRY FREE I love Miyokos and Melt Organics. Please note, Miyokos is made from Cashews.
  • Eggs (or Egg replacer)Eggs help bind the ingredients together, giving the dough structure and ensuring the cookies hold their shape when baked. The protein in eggs help the cookies rise slightly, making them light and fluffy. For egg replacer I have had the best success with Bobs Red Mill Egg Replacer
  • Sugar -  Sugar helps create the smooth, creamy texture that fudge is known for. When combined with butter and milk or cream, sugar contributes to the formation of small sugar crystals, which gives fudge its smooth and melt-in-your-mouth consistency.
  • Vanilla - adds flavor and enhances sweet flavors
  • Gluten Free Flour Blend Many gluten-free flour blends are designed to mimic the properties of traditional wheat flour, allowing for similar textures and structures in baked goods like cookies, cakes, and bread. My favorite blend is Better Batter. The texture is perfect, not gritty, the cookies don’t crumble, and the taste is amazing. (Use code GFMACROS to save 30%)
  • Baking Powder - Baking powder is a leavening agent. This ingredient helps the dough to rise slightly, making the cookies soft and tender rather than dense. Baking powder helps the cookies spread evenly while baking, giving them a smooth, consistent shape. please verify yours is Gluten free.
  • SaltSalt acts as a flavor enhancer, balancing the sweetness of the sugar and preventing the cookies from tasting overly sugary. It brings out the natural flavors in the dough, making the sweetness more pronounced and pleasant. My go to salt is Redmond Sea Salt. Use code GFMACROS to save 10%
  • Cream of Tartar Cream of Tartar reacts with baking powder to produce carbon dioxide gas, which helps create a slightly puffier, softer texture in the cookies. This contributes to the characteristic tender crumb of sugar cookies.
  • FrostingFrosting sugar cookies is a fun and creative way to decorate them, and it adds a layer of sweetness and texture. Homemade frosting is an affordable way of decorating the cookies. If you like to buy your frosting, I love Miss Jones frosting. The taste is very similar to homemade and is made with better ingredients than other store bought brands.
  • Food coloring - By adding different colors, you can create unique designs or patterns, such as ombre effects, multi-colored swirls, or rainbow cakes. I like to use dye free food coloring. A few great options are Watkins and SuperNaturalPro tip: If you're making multiple colors, divide your frosting into smaller portions and color each one separately.
  • SprinklesAdding sprinkles to sugar cookies add visual and sensory benefits. A few of my favorites are SuperNatural and Watkins
