I grew up enjoying soda cracker candy! The sweet, salty, and crunchy treat brings back warm memories of simpler times. Now it's a family tradition that my kids enjoy during the holidays.
Ingredients
- Salt Crackers (also known as Table Crackers) - Soda crackers provide a crisp, crunchy texture that contrasts beautifully with the smooth toffee and melted chocolate layers. This crunch is key to the appeal of soda cracker candy, giving each bite a satisfying bite and balance of textures. The crackers also have a mild flavor which helps enhance the sweetness of the toffee and chocolate. My favorite crackers to use for this recipe are the Schar table crackers.
- Brown sugar - Brown sugar contains molasses, which gives it a distinctive, caramel-like flavor that enhances the toffee’s taste. This added depth brings out a rich, warm sweetness that complements the salty crunch of the soda crackers and the smooth chocolate, creating a well-rounded flavor profile. For DAIRY FREE my two favorite butters are Miyokos (which is cashew based) and Melt Organics.
- Butter - When butter is combined with sugar, it helps to create a silky, smooth texture in the toffee. This smoothness allows the toffee to melt evenly and coat the soda crackers perfectly, without being too thick or grainy.
- Chocolate Chips - Chocolate chips are designed to melt quickly and evenly, making them incredibly convenient for candy-making. Their small, uniform size ensures that they melt smoothly and evenly over the toffee, creating a consistent, glossy layer of chocolate. This helps save time compared to chopping a bar of chocolate.
{SODA CRACKER CANDY}
1 package of GF saltine crackers (I used @scharglutenfree, @glutinofoods is another option I know of)
1c brown sugar
1c butter
1 bag of semi sweet chocolate chips
1) Preheat oven to 350

1) Preheat oven to 350
2) Cover a sheet pan with foil and then parchment paper.
3) Lay saltine crackers in a single layer on pan.
4) In a small sauce pan, add butter and brown sugar. Boil for 2 minutes.
5) Pour butter and sugar mixture over the crackers and bake 5 minutes.
6) Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips all over the caramel.
7) As the chocolate chips melt, spread evenly.
8) If desired, sprinkle with allergy friendly chocolate covered candy such as @unreal.snacks @yumearth or fun sprinkles.
9) Chill for a few hours. Then break into pieces and enjoy.
